What’s your favorite sniper rifle to use in Call of Duty 4?
How many of you enjoy using the sniper rifle? I was never much of a fan, not because I don’t enjoy using the sniper rifle but because unless you actually spend some time practicing with it then the only way you can get any kills is by camping. If there is one thing I hate in COD, it’s camping. So that’s basically the reason I never snipe. For whatever reason I have decided it’s time to start sniping and practicing.
I made a video of my “training”. I went into Killhouse that had less than 7 people. Figure if you’re in a smaller map it forces you to act faster when sniping which is pretty much the hard part of sniping. Anyone can go camp someplace and pick people off, good snipers can let themselves be fairly out in the open and get some kills. For my training game I usually sat atop one of the little huts in Killhouse so that people could see me but I could also duck behind that little wall if I needed to.
There was a guy in there named |E2|Zero and we were sniping back and fourth for most of the time which was pretty fun.
So what is your favorite sniper rifle to use? Mine favorite gun is the M40A. You really can’t beat the power and accuracy of the M40 in my opinion. However, I will say I love using the 50cal when in tighter areas where enemies can run up on you because it has awesome semi-auto noscoping ability.
The R700 seems to take a long time to reset after taking a shot, dunno if it’s my imagination or reality. It does have tons of power but that reset time kills it for me.
When I first started playing Call of Duty I loved the Dragunov and the M21 because of their quick fire ability, now days I don’t care for them because they lack power and accuracy.
How about the ACOG? Anyone like the ACOG? I never really learned to like or use that scope but I have seen some good sniping with it. There is a guy I play with in S&D servers by the name of “Mb@pewp” or something, who seems to do very well with the M40A/ACOG.
Here is the training video I made last night, not bad considering I don’t hardly ever use a sniper rifle. I’m going to upload another one after I practice sniping for couple months and I’ll be able to compare the two and see if I got any better.
I’m trying to figure out the little jerk/twitch thing for increasing accuracy. I don’t know how consoles work but on the PC if you make a slight jerk or twitch to one side before or after your shot, it will dramatically increase your accuracy. Go check out a promod server and spec some of those players when they snipe, it can be a beautiful thing to watch when done correctly.

I agree that the M40A3 is the best sniperrifle to use, but I think the Barrett M82A1 / M107 is the one that’s the most fun to use. (Like listening to the thundering sound with that little whisper-sound in the middle and see someones’ backskull paint the wall.)
m21 is my favorite snipe with no ACOG but i only use it in HC i dont even snipe in soft core
M21 ACOG’ed definitely. Has the power to reach out to hit people at range and the mobility to do well in CQC situations.
Reg scope on M40A3 for the win. It’s harder to be good in close quarters at first but as long as you have the enemy in the center of your cross hairs before you scope in it’s instakill. The main tip I’d give you is try not to look around while scoped in as much if you’re sniping like that because it’s slow and cumbersome.

It isn’t camping you call it strategic positioning. I like the Springfield, pretty accurate, perfect with the wind velocity when you’re sniping 3 miles away.
And yes I like COD5.

You can’t camp in a game which has dynamic spawns. And even if you could, it’s preferable to SMG base r*ping.
the barret with and achog
Depends on mode prefer M40A (most used by me)on Hardcore because of accuracy. Although wouldnt recommend for normal modes because damage isn’t high so would require 2 shots for non headshot kill. R700 i find best for normal because of the power makes it a 1 shot kill weapon even if accuracy isn’t perfect. If you plan on moving a lot Dragonov is definitly my favourite choice for both modes because of the shooting speed and time it takes to go back to starting position after firing but barret 50 cal could be just as useful. I found the best way to improve my speed at aiming for snipers was to go on hardcore with a bolt action and not to camp this improves accuracy because if you miss you’re very unlikely to get a second shot (gets rid of temptation to blast)
btw anyone that says any rifle with acogs should be quiet because using an acog is not proper sniping. Only people that use acogs are the ones that haven’t got the skill and are after a quick way to one shot kill from far away
M40A1 with/with-out ACOG. I use both depending on what map I’m playing. Smaller maps I use M40 acog with steady-aim for no-scopes. Larger maps I use regular scope just for the precision. People who talk smack about the acog are just pissed that they get out-sniped by an experienced acog sniper when they are sitting on a hill with a regular scope. Stop complaining and use your distance to your advantage. When I use an ACOG I am constantly moving just to increase my chance for an ambush rather than camping and letting someone out-flank me if I stay put.

(I won the MLG (Major League Gaming for those who don’t know) 1 versus 1 sniping tournament with an ACOG M40. I was the only one who used an acog and I smoked everyone haha.)
When it comes down to it, it all depends on the skill of the player, not the gun. Use what works best for you and most of all have fun doing it!
dang dude youre good at sniping. i like barret 50 cal the best. for training i reccomend using that on showdown. you have to make quick shots and there is no camping(if you wanna live). thats how i got good at sniping.
Can i just ask what perks you used then, cos some ppl use stopping power 2 make there sniper stronger but others use different, can you tell me wat perks you use please ,

If you use the ACOG on the m40 u realy dont need the deep impact unless u suck and cant hit them above the waiste.I cant wait for MW2!!!!!

M40 is diffinatly the best sniper rifle when it comes to hardcore, you dont want to miss!
i use the M40. i use the acog on it with band, stopping power, and steady aim.
im not the camping type, i usually move. And the acog enables you to do quick scopes.
When you no-scope it usually takes a few shots, thats why i use band.
I use stopping power so its a one shot kill.
Steady aim makes no scoping so easy.

I can’t stand no-scopers. Learn how to play a little more realistic ffs. I don’t even know why I am reading this either, the writer seems to think “a good sniper can let themselves be out in the open.” What the f*ck snipers are you talking about? Heh, that’s why I’ll stick to hardcore headquarters: no twitchy little kids running around shoving a sniper barrel in peoples stomachs and pulling the trigger.

i love having a 50 cal acog because its a good gun for the small but snipe matches if you know what i mean. but otherwise m40 because alot of power and easy kills. i use stopping power so if i no scope then i have a better chance kill. working towards a gold dragunov at the mo.
your all saying that snipers camp. well that what real life snipers do. there not going to run in the middle of a villiage and start blowing there heads off are they. but if they do, acog best for them. lol

In life its called “strategic positioning” but in Modern Warfare…its called camping. Nothing more irritating to me and alot of others is some sniper thats “camping” at OR near the boundaries of the map, makes it kind of hard when your playing HQ and your spawning on the opposite side of where Head Quarters is. (and no, I’m not accusing you of back-wall sniping lol)

Got to agree with you there. I’ve been using all of them and really it’s about techniqe and repetition, not the weapon. However, the Barrett is the most fun to shoot.
M40A3 with the ACOG its a quicker aim with less accuracy at long range but a lot of the maps are close range maps in COD4.
m4oa3 with no attachment is sick
50 .cal with bandolier for perk 1 for perk 2 will be stopping power to make it be twice as powerful and perk 3 would be iron lungs or stedy aim its one of the best classes with red tiger camoflauge colour

wow the m21 is a shitty sniper. the best all around sniper is the m40a3. i use it with acog because now that im a tenth prestige i can work on perfecting my skills with the acog. and ive come to realize its extremely good. i have a blue tiger m40a3 with acog, bandolier, stopping power and steady aim, i actually tried it out in free for all for a while and i got good at it..

M40 ACOG is by far the most accurate rifle in the game, whether at close range or long range. M40 is mostly known for it’s ability to obtain accuracy whilst “quickscoping” and “noscoping”, R700 sponges often (can also be called “hitmarker”), making it hard to kill other players as you have to shoot the player again to actually kill him or her.
I have compared R700 to M40, both with ACOG. M40 has so much less recoil than R700, also M40 does NOT sponge unless regular scope is used, or you are sniping players through walls.
Best Class For M40a3.

The m40 with reg scope there is no need for ur rifle to be used in cqb when u have a pistol don’t be a fucking moron that walks around trying to no scope. Camping is a part of being a sniper it’s the hole point of having the power so u can wait for the long distance shot use one bullet and be done it’s camping with mp5s and jugg that is gay
And u need to use a reg scope again because a sniper is used for long range and acogs are for short range bitches

The m40 and the m21 are my favourite in cod4 but i think they should have silencers on them to make it even better for MW2

Don’t listen to these people hating on m40a3 acog combo’s. I got into it through fun, it is fun! thats my problem is when people have so much hate in this game, for gods sake it is a game. I for one will be sticking at 70 on modern warfare 2, bolt action with acog pro stopping power pro steady aim and pro sleight of hand! unless otherwise intrigued by prestige rewards. also i can dual wield pistols (: its going to be FUN

Because it has a wery long range and much power.
Its also good to quickscope with.
If you are gonna use a sniper you should have the perks:
faster realoding, bling pro with the attachments fjg and thermal at mw2 afcourse. The 3 but not least perk is marathon.
On black ops i will prefer the mp5k weapon.
