It seems that Infinity Ward will be following its earlier formula for its new map pack for Modern Warfare 2. Recently community manager of the studio, Robert Bowling, shared some details about the Resurgence Pack.
He said that the Resurgence Pack will be sold for 1200 points ($15) and as the earlier Stimulus Package, this map pack also feature five maps, in which there are three new environments and two maps updated from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. These two are
Vacant, set inside an open Russian complex, and urban environment Strike.
Below are the details of three new maps as shared by Robert Bowling:
Carnival – This map is set inside a “desolated amusement park” and it has unique locations like a rollercoaster and fun house.
Trailer Park – Bowling says that this is a cozy map and it features abandoned trailers and tight corridors. He also says further that this map is like a maze with various chokepoints.
Fuel – This is like a “sniper haven”. It is based in an oil refinery and according to him this is one of the larger environments of the game.
The first success of Modern Warfare 2, released on November 14 last year, was that it sold astonishing 14 million copies across the world till date. Well, most of us knows this. Here comes one more milestone of this modern military shooter. The “Stimulus Package” map pack has been downloaded 1 million times in its first 24 hours of its availability nine days before. Till now it has been downloaded more than 2.5 million times. Isn’t that too great?
Released by Activision and time-exclusive to the Xbox 360, the map pack is price tagged $15. It adds five multiplayer maps to MW2.
For the PS3 version owners the “Stimulus Package” will be made available April 30 onwards and we hope that on PlayStation Network also it sets a record. What you all say? Surely will agree with me. Put your comments.
Let us talk about lucrative. At $15 a pop, Modern Warfare 2 garnered a sales of $37.5 million and it is estimated that out of it about $26 million went to Activision.
Next week the downloadable Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Pack will hit the Xbox 360 and it will bring with it 5 new maps.
Recently the founders of Activision owned Infinity Ward were fired. The allegations was there that royalties were being withheld by the publisher and the two of them were insubordinate to their parent company.
Well, the internal upheaval and also the lawsuits have not managed to impact the team.
Robert Bowling said, “Not at all, our main focus as a team here at Infinity Ward is this pack. We want to focus on making the games we love.”
On the other side the Stimulus Pack has brought a bit of its own controversy. Many claims that the price is too steep of it for what is being delivered in actual.
It costs $15 and it will hit the market on March 30. For the PS3 it will be available in the market by April 30.
Three new maps are included in the pack, “Bailout,” a multi-level apartment complex; “Storm,” an open industrial park littered with heavy machinery; “Salvage,” a snowy junkyard fortified by stacked debris and crushed cars.
Earlier also we informed about the Map Pack of Modern Warfare 2 coming this Spring. Well, now it appears as if someone has obtained, may be sort of, the new maps, and surprise too.
It seems that one person has made use of Xbox 360 to obtain the Spring map pack, as it appears, of the Modern Warfare 2. It has not been explained about how the person was able to do it, but here is a video that he has posted, showing us.
The new mode is called Global Thermonuclear War as it can be seen in the below video and also some of the new maps have been revealed and those are mentioned here:
Robert Bowling, the community manager at Infinity Ward, says that he and his team have plans to support Modern Warfare 2 heavily with post-launch support. He stated recently that there will be at least two map packs. In fact this was also announced at the E3. The two map packs will be for the Xbox 360.
Bowling also said that they have confirmed of at least two map packs and this does not mean that there won’t be more than two map packs. He mentioned further that Infinity Ward will be shaping the DLC based on the feedback of the community from the full game and also from the feedback of the first two DLC map packs. So, in fact the community will be determining what will come after the two map packs.
Activision is working hard to hype the title and it is also working hard to create a community around the game in order to sustain the game on the long term. Now it really seems that Activision will prove it to be one of the biggest video game launches of this fall.
Well, do keep reading and do keep commenting. Let us hope that Modern Warfare 2 sustain in a very long term.
There will be only two map packs for MW2. This has been confirmed by Activision recently when the news came in that this game has broken all the previous pre-order records of Activision.
Michael J. Griffith, the president and CEO of publishing unit said, “We plan to launch two separate map packs for this title. Map packs help extend the shelf life of the franchise.”
Griffith also said that the popularity of the previous map packs that was released for the original Modern Warfare and World at War were very significant. He added that the company had strong success with map packs and were able to sell over 8 million units for both the Xbox 360 and PS3.
Though it was earlier already known to media that there will be two map packs coming to Modern Warfare 2, but no one was sure that these were to be the only map packs.
