No local matchmaking for Modern Warfare 2 confirms Bowling

September 29th, 2009

Modern_Warfare_2_There will be no option to allow players to search multiplayer games within the same region or same country. This has been confirmed by Infinity Ward after several requests by international players in improving lag in the game.

Robert Bowling, Creative Strategist of Infinity Ward, posted on Twitter saying, “There isn’t an option to search specific regions/ countries when matchmaking, but there is improved matchmaking to auto-assist.” He writes further that the improved matchmaking system will be automatically connecting players to games that best suits for their connection.

When Robert Bowling asked whether local matchmaking in a later patch could be added, then he said that it was a possibility. He wrote, “We’ll monitor community feedback closely post launch to see if the improved matchmaking benefits international users or not.”

There was also a large thread generated in the Infinity Ward forums by a New Zealand user. He described his playing experience there in the previous series of the game against North American players.

He wrote: “You encounter an enemy, you shoot at him with enough rounds for a kill with your AK or your sniper rifle and the ‘X’ damage indicator comes up. But for some reason you die and he does not. You watch the killcam to see why you died, and apparently you didn’t even fire off a shot. You just got killed by lag.”

I’m from new zealand and what the guy said is true. Us kiwi’s can only really play with australians to get a good connection. although i do believe he over exageratted a little. ive learnt to judge for lag by aiming a few feet infront of them. but yeah id really appreciate region based games. hopefully the matchmaking is improved enough as it claims. I’m getting really sick of having to leave games, which count as a loss because my connection is so far beyond terrible that its just not worth playing.

u agree with morphine. im australian and i always get in into an american host game which is really annoying because they can kill me easier than it is to kill them. this game is great but the lack of choosing regions ruined the game

Not having an option to search for a local game is a bunch of ass. Every night I try and play, surely there are a hundred Aus games going and yet I get put in a red US room, every single time. Nothing worse than dying after you’ve run around a corner. Why should US players have an advantage of killing a laggy Australian player. For fuck sake, just put me in an Aussie room.

I finally got the game and after all the excitement found that the laggy online experience totally ruins it for me.

I agree with all the Aussies above….I have the fastest internet connection possible yet it makes no difference. This game is much better than “World at War” yet WAW had a “Local Connection” which was great. It’s so frustrating trying to play when your constanly behind the 8Ball and don’t I think it’s unexceptable to have to adjust your playing to shoot a few steps in front of your opponent. IT’S TERRIBLE. I’v only managed to get one game in so far where I was hooked up with a bunch of Aussies and tha was great…clearly the automated match making isn’t working at all.

I’m from Australia and have the fastest internet connection available to me, but just like ‘Shogunmac’ I find incredibly difficult to actually get into a game that gives me more than a single red bar. How difficult would it be to add a local search function? It’s a small amount of one company’s time to make a whole country happy. Doesn’t sound that bad does it?

I agree the game is amazing, but the lag really gets to me. I dont see why you wouldnt put preferences in for the search. It is so much better!!! than having an auto finder…..

I’m from New Zealand & I played this game for a couple of days pretty much was on one red bar the whole time on the very few times I hosted I would often be booted from the game because one american joined & the connection would interupt, now why does the host get booted I play plenty on one bars against americans & THEY DON’T GET BOOTED this game I’ve noticed is geared to work in there favour. There is also a lack of spawn points I killed other players just to have them spawn right behind me…. All this game does is annoy me & I won’t play it until there is local search…At the moment I’m playing a much better game that I guessing alot of N.Z & Aus will return to COD5 WAW.

Yep agreed with all! Im in Tassie, Australia and I get excited about a 2 bar connection game, thats how rare they are :( really puts a damper on buying the game!
hopefully they will release a later patch to improve this.

I’m in Canada and I currently use wireless for my 360, I haven’t had any other problems with any other games. Even with call of duty 4, I didn’t have problems, but it seems with modern warfare 2, it just lags like crazy. I can be halfway through a match then every glitches out due to the lag. Can’t control my player, I either get connection interrupted or I have to quit out to my dashboard. If they know they made a game that’s gonna lag like ass, why make so if you quit the game you automatically take a loss. It’s complete horse shit, it’s something they should really fix.

Infinty Ward SAY they will monitor how it works out. BUT THERE HAS BEEN SO MANY COMPLAINTS AND ISUES. They do nothing, Australians are out numberd by U S of ASS and get shit connnection,

I am in the field of Online and i can say that Creationg a Preference Option is Nothing. 3 days tops to create a patch that works, But they still down do a thing.

WaW is now our only real only CoD game.

I cant play a single game without getting lagged like shit. In CoD4 i dont lag, but in CoD6 whenever i try to play in multiplayer i get “Connection Interrupted” very regually and then i get killed. For fucks sakes IW just release Dedi servers for CoD6, it fails without it. And AT LEAST give the option for classic game finding and ping display. In bars, they could mean anything. And add a fricken vote-kick system too, im sick of hackers in 99.99% of servers i goto that wall and get away with it. No matter how hard you try to make the game “un-piratable”, people will get around it. (I obtained my game legally). and please, for fucks sakes, make the game more realistic like you promised. im sick of these model 1887 or whatever shotgun noobs killing me from like 50m away.

    thanks

Modern Warfare 2 is one of the most horrid multiplayer experiences possible. Even in north america I CONSTANTLY have people in the red in the games magically jumping around … never dying even when you unload entire SCAR-H clips WITH stopping power on … it shows hits. But when you see the killcam it shows you in a totally different position then you were seeing. This game has nothing to do with skill … basically whoever has the best connection wins because you aren’t shooting “ghosts”. And even after almost 2 months on the market and issue after issue there is no resolution in sight. On the Infinity Ward site you can read all about how they choose not to do public betas or anything … and all of us are now paying the price while they enjoy their millions and don’t effectively fix the issues in their product. I wish there was some way they could be forced to give us our money back until they FIX the non-stop issues in this piece of junk.

After playing it for like a day, I went crawling back to WaW. Simply because of my Aussie connection.

  18. January 7th, 2010 at 08:16 | #18

You know that it picks the best conection for host. So maybe us Americans just have better internet conection. I also find myself yellin while watchin kill cams, because thats just now how the shit went down.

no matter how good ur connection is here in aus u will never get 50ping to an american the matchmaking simply does not work.. if an american connects to aussie host there red also. its just distance

if the matchmaking system accually spent more then 1sec looking for a 50ping game b4 thowing u into a US game (over 600-1200 ping or more) this game would be alot better, Americans will get only American games and Australians only Australian games problem solves… thats what IW tried and failed to do…

but they should really try fixing it. or atleast tell us if they have any plans to fix… but they wont, they will just bring out mw3 and on the back cover “includes local search!” so more people will buy there game…

I’m not buying MW3 as far as I’m concerned. Haven’t played the game in a week. I don’t know why and for some reason I still am fucking good (not to be stuck up) but on lag i usually get a +20 K/D and overall it is 1.50 the game just got freaking boring, lag included. BAD COMPANY 2 HERE I COME! Aussie Safe Haven. Apparently on free-for-all and mosh pit you will get more aussie games for anyone who isn’t already fed up.

GUYS in NZ OR AUSTRALIA!!!! I HAVE A SOLUTION!! Me and my buddies play at about 5:00 to 7:00 AEST (no DLS) and we get into 1 out of every 2 games good! Give it a shot! However only do free for all! Nothing else works. Don’t try on American holidays either cause they’re all fat-asses staying up till like 3 in the morning. However although it is good i hate free for all so it isn’t enough to play. The reason this works is, is because Americans suck so much they don’t go near FFA. See my K/D is over 2 and I usually play on yellow. I get pissed even when I’m winning because they should be the wons owning me. Yet they suck donkey balls… But yeah it is clear game has been out for about 4 months and nothing has happened. Move games guys. Cod7 by the great company who made Cod WaW (putting in local search) and it is coming out this year. Halo: Reach and Bungie has always been very community friendly! Fuck IW even Treyarch who generally doesn’t make as good GAMES! Is atleast community friendly! Treyarch deserves to be the main makers of the franchise!
