When the two top executives of Activision, who were responsible for the success of Modern Warfare 2 that helped in generating $1 Billion, were expelled by the Company last Monday, everybody was expecting a lawsuit. As predicted, the suit came on Wednesday, and it could have repercussion for publisher and contestants.

Jason West and Vince Zampella are in a process of suing Activision for unfair decision and looking for $36 Million.

They also declare that, no such game with name of Modern Warfare cab be published without their written permission.

In reply, Activision has called the suit meritless and consider itself right in dismissing West and Zampella due to their misconduct and behavior and announced that it will keep on releasing thrilling and inventive game.

But if West and Zampella proved themselves right, they are going to put Activision’s most precious franchise in danger.

Call of Duty holds over $3 Billion sale till date and Modern warfare has been pronounced the top selling game of 2009.

Even Activision keeps hold of game, there is always a danger that the development team of infinity ward might join West and Zampella in new project.

The matter will be settled amongst the Company executives they will be beneficial in terms of money for West and Zarnpella

A bad experience for all the fans of Modern Warfare 2 happened two days before. The game was stopped. The server seized to respond. All the Xbox Live users were not able to figure out how to bring the servers back. For few hours the game was off. There was no communication with the servers of Xbox Live.

The Microsoft technicians tired their level best to fix up the problem for the ongoing Xbox Live outage. They did their best to get over the interruption to the earliest.

The Twitter, the facebook, the digg and every where on internet the news was flooded saying ‘Modern Warfare 2 servers down’, ‘Modern Warfare 2 game not working’, ‘Microsoft Modern Warfare 2 problem’ and many more headlines on newspapers.

Well, whatever be the headlines or whatever be the problem at the Microsoft end, it is not healthy for the best seller of 2009. The developer should take care of all these so that it is not repeated in future.

Microsoft made an interesting announcement in San Francisco while re-launching the X series of events for Xbox 360 home gaming platform. The software giant said that it is partnering up with Infinity Ward and also with Activision Blizzard to deliver Modern Warfare 2’s exclusive piece of downloadable content during spring.

However, the company refused quote any clear date. This means that the work is still ongoing on the DLC and any further details will be delivered in a few months.

It seems that Microsoft is having a long run strategy of securing and and also delivering exclusive DLC for high profile cross platform releases such as the Modern Warfare 2 and GTA IV.

The spring bouquet will probably be consisting new maps for the multiplayer component. This is in fact the most enduring element of the experience as time passes by. It may also be for a fresh game mode.

Gamers who have purchased MW2 on PS3 or on the PC may also be getting the exclusive content after a few months. The same happened earlier with The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony that were initially made exclusive to the Xbox 360, but now both are available cross platform.

After the record-setting popularity of Modern Warfare 2, Activision Blizzard now posts a better-than-expected results on Wednesday saying that it but still couldn’t manage a profit.

Modern Warfare 2 though has sold over 12 million copies, but the loss of the company grew to $286 million in 2009’s last three months due to accounting changes and also because of a hefty reduction of music games value such as Guitar Hero and some other titles for the Wii console of Nintendo.

Bobby Kotick, the CEO of the company said, “Last year was a really tough year in the category. The casual consumer in an economy like this one is going to be very cautious about where they spend their dollars.”

The shares of Activision rallied in after-hours trading after the company announced that it would be paying an annual stock dividend. The company even announced about a $1 billion stock buyback program. In the regular session, the shares of the company added 5 cents, to $10.10. Later on they rose to $10.55.

Kotick also added, “It shows you the strength and confidence we have.”

In the holiday quarter the sales were led by CoD and games like World of Warcraft in online. The monthly fees of it makes the company compared with other software games

A report issued by an association of industry analysts noted that the revenues of the video games market slumped in 2009. The top three consumers of video games in the world, -UK, US and Japan- showed less interest in the purchasing. The sales faced highest slump in the UK i.e. 14pc.

If it wasn’t for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 by Activison, God knows how much these figures would have had fallen. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 proved to be the fastest selling game of all time, selling out 11.86 million in under a couple of months after its release in November, in the three economies.

The NPD Group, GfK Chart-Track, and Enterbrain- the firms who had made the once a year Top Global Markets report reverberated the NPD’s 2009 report of the US markets. The NPD Report had pointed out that the sales for the industry fell in all sections, hardware, software and accessories dropped 8 percent from last year. Although, December got the best sales numbers, that NPD had ever seen in the industry.

The Wal-Mart Stores Inc. gives discount on Modern Warfare 2 this week on the Hardened Edition for Playstation 3. It is now on sale for just $49.00.

Earlier the price of Modern Warfare 2 Hardened Edition on Walmart.com was $59 and $79.99 MSRP.

The retailer Amazon.com also is giving discount this week. In a new sale it is selling the Modern Warfare 2 stand-alone SKU at $45.00.

Activision Blizzard said recently that for fixing a Care Package Sprint, Sentry Guns, Model 1887 Tweak and more of Modern Warfare 2 a new patch is being released to console hardware. At present the patch is available for the PC.

It is quite unfortunate for the owners of PlayStation 3. The brand Modern Warfare has become synonymous with the Microsoft’s Xbox 360 for past few years. Now after Modern Warfare 2’s release, this relationship has been cemented.

Developer Activision has worked with the Microsoft in creating a hardware bundle for XBox 360 with its game. They also announced it at the E3 last year that the DLC would his the Xbox 360 first.

Now, at last, the window of exclusivety has been numbered.

Microsoft representative while speaking to the media recently made it clear that the DLC would have a month headstart on the Xbox 360.

He said, “We have a 30-day timed exclusive on the Modern Warfare content packs. So it will be available on other platforms, but you get to try and play on Xbox 360 first.”

Still the DLC has not been dated for any platform till now, even though the earlier CoD titles are representative of the pattern. They will be hitting by the next few months.

It was the biggest sales month for the video games industry, but still it suffered a decline in past five years.

The December sales topped previous top December 2008 by 4%. It hit to a total of $5.53 billion. This says The NPD Group, the market tracking firm. Recently it released its report that covered December 2009 and also the entire year.

According to this report, the overall sales of video games ran into a shortage of $20 billion ($19.66 billion), which is 8% decline from last years record of $21.4 billion.

Anita Frazier of NPD said, “December marks just the fourth month of the year where the industry saw an increase over last year. January and February were both up, and since the decline that began in March, only September experienced growth. The big sales this month, particularly on the hardware front, is a positive move for the industry headed into what will hopefully be a recovery year in 2010.”

The blockbuster Modern Warfare 2 hit a milestone in the industry by becoming the top-selling video game of the year. According to the report, the Xbox 360 version sold over 5.8 million copies.

Frazier added, “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has become the fourth best-selling game of all time. In fact, three of the top 10 games of all time are Call of Duty games.”
